Woman dies in snorkeling incident

A 74-year-old Seattle, Washington woman died Thursday after snorkeling at the Dry Tortugas National Park.

Carol Murrell Maillet was airlifted via Trauma Star to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island where she was pronounced dead at approximately 2:47 p.m.

Maillet was snorkeling along the fort wall by the beach area when family members and others heard her screaming due to an unknown reason. It was not a guided snorkel trip.

Maillet was brought ashore and CPR began by good Samaritans.

The incident remains under investigation.

Foul play is not believed to be a factor in the incident.

Autopsy results are pending.
