Woman arrested for theft

A 41-year-old Key Largo woman was arrested Thursday on fraud and theft charges.

Michele Lee Moser was charged with theft from a person 65-years-old or older, forgery, passing forged checks and illegal use of another person’s identification.

The incident began in January when the victim asked Moser to stay on his property in order to accept a package.  The man later received a bank statement reflecting he had cashed a check for $2,300. He noticed his checkbook was missing the same numbered check used in that transaction. He notified the Sheriff’s Office and stated he suspected Moser given she had access to his property.

Moser admitted to stealing, forging and cashing the check in an interview with Detective Paul Bean in March. Warrants were issued for her arrest and she was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center on Planation Key on Thursday on a $12,500 bail.
