Woman arrested for failing to stop on U.S. 1 

A 22-year-old motorist was arrested Wednesday after speeding and refusing to stop for Deputies.

Shoko Tanabe of Japan was charged with failure to yield to law enforcement.

Tanabe was driving a Toyota Corolla 80 mph in a 45 mph zone northbound near Mile Marker 50.5 at approximately 4:30 a.m. She continued northbound with multiple Deputies behind her with their lights and sirens activated. Her speed fluctuated and she changed lanes multiple times. She finally stopped near Mile Marker 57.5. She was taken to jail. A 22-year-old passenger in the vehicle was not arrested.


Man arrested in gun incident

A 54-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested Tuesday after pointing a handgun at a woman. There were no serious injuries reported.

Glenn Arnold Watts was charged with aggravated assault.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Tropical Trader Road at approximately 11:16 p.m. regarding a subject with a gun.

The 67-year-old victim stated Watts became angry during an argument and pointed a handgun at her.

Watts was arrested without incident. A 9mm Sig Saur handgun and a rifle were secured at the scene.


Bicyclist on U.S. 1 arrested

A 28-year-old intoxicated man on a bicycle was arrested Wednesday after he failed to exit U.S. 1 or stop for Deputies.

Clayton Guy Peavey of Marathon was charged with DUI and fleeing and eluding.

Peavey was impeding traffic while on a bicycle on U.S. 1 near 15th Street at approximately 9 a.m. Deputies attempted to stop Peavey with their lights and sirens activated. Peavey did not stop and began to peddle faster. He finally stopped at 29th Street after tiring.
