Woman arrested for DUI after leaving crash on Seven Mile Bridge

A 61-year-old Big Pine Key woman was arrested early Friday morning after hitting a car on the Seven Mile Bridge and then failing to stop.

Yvonne Victoria Fassett was charged with hit and run, DUI and DUI causing damage to property.

There were no serious injuries reported in the incident that began about 3 a.m.

Deputy Ryan Chlebanowski received information that a stopped car at Mile Marker 43 on the bridge had been struck and that the suspect vehicle, a white minivan, continued southbound without stopping. The driver of the stopped car was helping another motorist change a tire. Debris from the white minivan was left in the road. Deputy Shawn Steele spotted the van turning onto County Road on Big Pine Key. He caught up to the van as it was pulling into a driveway at a residence on Croton Lane. Deputy Steele noted the minivan had extensive damage to its passenger side. He further noted the front passenger tire was gone and the vehicle was being driven on the rim. Also missing were the side view mirror and sliding door handle.

Fassett admitted to having knowledge that she hit something, but stated she was scared to pull over due to the darkness.

She failed field sobriety exercises.

Fassett was taken to jail.
