Woman arrested for DUI after crash 

A 50-year-old Key Largo woman was arrested Wednesday morning after crashing into some bushes on private property and leaving the scene.

Kari Joyce Dodson was charged with hit and run, DUI, DUI with property damage, resisting arrest, battery and criminal mischief/damage to property.

Deputy Jacques Rozek responded to a single-vehicle crash at 10 a.m. on North Blackwater Lane in Key Largo. When he turned onto Blackwater Lane, he saw a gold, Jaguar® car traveling towards him at a high rate of speed. He stopped the Jaguar. Dodson the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

Dodson got out of the car and begun stumbling. She smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Deputy Jean Gonzalez arrived on scene.

Dodson kicked Deputy Rozek twice and told him to take her to jail. She was taken into custody at that time.

Deputy Rozek then went further down the street where the crash occurred. A homeowner and witnesses there stated the Jaguar ran into some bushes and hedges. The homeowner stated he saw the drive, identified as Dodson, attempting to reverse out of the hedges before leaving and driving toward the end of the street.

Dodson was taken to jail.

Dodson kicked and broke lights in the rear of the patrol car en route to jail.
