Woman arrested for child abuse

A 28-year-old Key Largo woman was arrested Wednesday for striking a child in the face with a leather belt.

Yensy Duenas Gonzales, 28, was charged with aggravated child abuse.

School officials notified the Sheriff’s Office that the 10-year-old female victim had large, deep bruises on her face near her temple, a bloodshot eye and similar bruises on her arm.

Gonzales admitted to using a leather belt with a metal belt buckle to strike the child, but her story was inconsistent with the child’s injuries.

Gonzales was taken to jail.

Woman arrested on drug charges

A 32-year-old Summerland Key woman was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle Fentanyl into the jail.

Bridget Victoria Kaestner was charged with trafficking Fentanyl, possession of Fentanyl and attempting to smuggle contraband into the jail.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped Kaestner in a BMW at approximately 9:13 p.m. on U.S. 1 in Marathon as she had a warrant for attempting to purchase heroin.

Deputies asked Kaestner multiple times if she had any drugs hidden in her body as she had made such attempts in the past.

She was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center where 5.1 grams of Fentanyl were found in her genital region after an X-ray at the jail revealed an anomaly there.
