Woman arrested for battery

A 38-year-old Marathon woman was arrested Thursday for hitting another woman and cutting her with a knife in a May 12 assault.

Candy Zoe Marroquin was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery and burglary with assault or battery.

The victim told Deputy Leon Bourcier Marroquin came to her house in Marathon and began banging on her front door. The victim opened the door and recognized Marroquin as the ex-girlfriend of the victim’s current boyfriend. Marroquin had a small, black knife. Marroquin swung the knife at the victim, cutting her on the forehead. Marroquin grabbed the victim by the hair and continued hitting her. She dragged the victim outside and continued to hit her while she was on the ground. Marroquin struck the victim’s vehicle several times before leaving.

Later that day, Deputy Frank Westerband found Marroquin at her residence. She had bruises on her arm. She could not say how she obtained the bruises. She denied the attack.

There were no serious injuries reported.

A warrant with a $45,000 bail was obtained on May 14.

Marroquin was booked into jail Thursday night.
