Woman airlifted after violent domestic

A woman was airlifted to a Miami hospital and her boyfriend went to jail for aggravated battery after a violent domestic dispute on Cudjoe Key Saturday night.

Deputies responded to a home on John Avery Lane at 6:40 p.m. to reports of an argument between 36 year old Anthony Velez and 32 year old Anelle Hernandez. The two are boyfriend and girlfriend and live with Hernandez’ parents.

Hernandez’ mother called to report the two were arguing and pushing each other. She said she tried to break them up but couldn’t. She called back a few minutes later to say her daughter was bleeding from her head.

When Deputy Wendy Negron arrived, she followed Hernandez’ father to a bedroom of the house. As she walked in, she heard the suspect say “she pushed me, I pushed her back” .She then saw Hernandez on the floor of a bedroom, unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. Kneeling over her was Velez.

According to the mother, the two had been at Marvin Key earlier in the day. When they returned, the argument started in the driveway of the house and then moved to the bedroom. She said the two were yelling and kept closing the door to the room. She said she kept opening it so she could see what was happening. At one point she saw them screaming and grabbing each other. That is when she called the Sheriff’s Office.

After calling she said she heard a “bang” sound. When she opened the door, she saw her daughter on the floor with blood around her head  and Velez on top of her.

Velez was arrested. He was charged with aggravated battery and he was taken to jail. Hernandez was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where she is reportedly in stable condition.
