WLRN /WKWM holds open house at The Studios of Key West to celebrate the opening of Southernmost News Bureau.

Miami, FL – April 7, 2016 – To further its coverage of the Florida Keys, WLRN will officially open its Southernmost News Bureau in Key West at The Studios of Key West on Friday, April 29, 2016. Between 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. the community is invited to meet and greet the news team that helps bring you the stories you listen to on South Florida’s public radio station.

During the event, you will get a first hand look at WLRN’s southernmost newsgathering tool, created exclusively with WLRN’s Key West bureau in mind.

WLRN News Southernmost Reporter Nancy Klingener will now produce news stories and interviews from the new studio. Klingener is a 25-year resident of Key West. She spent nine years covering the island chain for The Miami Herald. She has also been editor of Solares Hill and worked at the Monroe County Public Library. The host of WLRN’s “The Sunshine Economy” and “The Florida Roundup” Tom Hudson, along with WLRN News Editorial Director Alicia Zuckerman will join Nan celebrating the studio opening on April 29. Join us for coffee and donuts during Morning Edition.

“WLRN considers the Keys an important part of South Florida, economically, culturally, environmentally – and is proud to be the organization that connects the island chain to the mainland,” said WLRN/WKWM General Manager John Labonia.

That connection works two ways, bringing public radio programming to the Keys and making sure the Keys are included in the conversations regionally, statewide and nationally. Several of Klingener’s stories have aired nationally on NPR programs.

The event will take place on Friday, April 29, 2016 at The Studios of Key West, 533 Eaton Street between 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
