What Do Dads Really Want This Father’s Day?

“What dads really want to know,” says David, “is that they have your respect, appreciation and gratitude.”

Here are three simple steps to leave your dad with the experience of being appreciated and acknowledged this Father’s Day:

1. Say “Thanks” for a Specific Moment: Pick one special moment from your memories to call out to your dad. Whether it’s a trip you shared, a certain treat that only he could make or an instance where he went above and beyond for you or another family member. Recognize him and offer your gratitude.

2. Acknowledge Dad’s Love for You: It’s wonderful and important to let your dad know how much you love him. This year though, take the time to acknowledge that you know how much he loves you, too. Try out something like, “Thank you for loving me so much.” Tie this into a specific memory of Dad being there for you or giving you another piece of his Dad advice. Let him know you know this is because he loves you.

3. Let Him Know He Succeeded: One thing dads really love to know is that they succeeded at helping you to be the person you are today. Share what you love about your life and your strengths and acknowledge that this is because of how he raised you and because he is your dad.
