Weekend traffic advisories for Big Pine Key and Marathon

Two popular events in the Middle and Lower Keys will impact traffic this weekend.

  • The 15th Annual Big Pine & Lower Keys Nautical Expo is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is held on the grounds of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce at Mile Marker 31 on Big Pine Key. Motorists are reminded that traffic on U.S. 1 will be slow during those times due to increased traffic. Motorists are asked to be patient and be extra cautious of pedestrians crossing the highway near that area due to limited parking. For more information call the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce at 305-872-2411.
  • The Florida Keys Celtic Festival is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is held at the Marathon Community Park, Mile Marker 49, Oceanside, in Marathon. Again, motorists are reminded to be patient, expect delays and use extra care when traveling on U.S. 1 near that area as traffic is expected to be heavier. There may be an increase in pedestrians crossing U.S. 1 throughout both days. For more information, visit www.floridakeyscelticfestival.com
