Weekend Festivities Affect Roads

Let the festivities begin; but plan ahead.

Key West’s biggest party week is nearly here, kicking off with the Goombay Festival Friday and Saturday. This family-oriented event features great food and entertainment. Beginning Friday afternoon until midnight on Saturday, Petronia and Fort Streets will be closed to traffic. There will be no bus service west of Simonton Street. Instead, riders will need to use the bus stops on Simonton.

The Zombie Bike Ride will affect traffic from East Martello Tower on South Roosevelt Blvd to downtown on Sunday evening. Although the ride has just a rolling street closure which follows the riders, motorists can expect some serious delays because thousands of cyclists will be participating.

The ride leaves East Martello at 6 p.m. and heads to lower Duval Street. Key West International Airport will be accessible from the east end of South Roosevelt during this time.

Bus service will also be altered. Buses will travel on Flagler instead of Bertha and South Roosevelt after 6 p.m. There will be bus service to the Oceanwalk Complex, however there will be no airport or Smather’s Beach service.

These events kick off a busy week of events, many of which will impact our streets. When possible, residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to walk, use a bike or ride the bus.
