Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation Named Islamorada resident Angelika “Angie” Pridgen as 2020 Volunteer of the Year.

Volunteer of Year Honored at Keys History & Discovery Center

Islamorada, FL – Angelika “Angie” Pridgen has been named the 2020 Volunteer of the Year for Keys History & Discovery Center. Pridgen has been a volunteer for about a year-and-a-half and was a significant participant volunteering in the past year as we reopened the museum in June, often working two shifts a week.

“We are grateful for all of our volunteers,” said Executive Director Jill Miranda Baker, “yet Angie stood out for the numerous times she filled shifts when no one else was available.”

She was surprised with the honor during a Zoom recognition event with other volunteers and members of the Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation Board of Directors. She was gifted beautiful roses and a compass rose pendant.

The Discovery Center is staffed primarily through the efforts of volunteers who serve as docents and greeters to guests. Our volunteers enjoy sharing our history and interacting with guests who frequently have their own stories to tell about time spent in the Keys. The Discovery Center is seeking volunteers who have a special interest in the Upper Keys community and its unique history and ecology as well as those interested in covering weekend shifts. Safety features in place include the requirement of face coverings to be worn throughout the visit, plexiglass shields at the point of payment, as well as the availability of hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes.

Shifts are available Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.–5 p.m. To learn more about volunteering, submit the Volunteer Interest Form or e-mail volunteer@keysdiscovery.com. For general or volunteer information, call 305-922-2237 or visit our website at www.keysdiscovery.com.
