Visitor drops $9,750 at Duval Street Cosmetics Shop Local Rip-Off Team Gets Rapid Refund

A Vermont man said his partner was scammed out of $9,752.50 by Orogold, 518 Duval Street. Sales recipients show Wayne Sprengeler 54, of Stowe, Vermont made two purchases from the business on April 29, 2018.
Wayne’s partner Alan Goldman disclosed Wayne has been diagnosed with bipolar and delusions.
“He doesn’t even use cosmetics except a little moisturizer and would never have bought all that stuff in his right mind!” Goldman said.
The Rip-Off Rapid Response Team, a local consumer group, returned all the merchandise Sunday, May 20, and demanded the money be fully refunded immediately.
The group assembled eight protesters and picketed the store in a driving rain storm Monday afternoon at 2 PM demanding a refund for the victim. At 3:30 PM the business agreed to and issued the full refund.
Team spokesperson Tevis Wernicoff said “We were glad to help this poor fella get his money back, but, these rip-offs have got to stop. The victim this time was exhibiting clear signs of both mental illness and alcohol impairment and is now in a Miami hospital.Taking advantage of vulnerable visitors to Key West is not right, and this case is downright shameful.”
Wernicoff also believes the store committed fraud by charging Sprengeler more on his credit card than on the total cost on the sales slip.
Wernicoff said, “We are still investigating this case and we are also negotiating with the owners for a new agreement that guarantees better business practices because they already violated our last agreement.”
