Virtual celebration of Martin Luther King. Jr. Day

The City of Key West and members of the community have joined together to create a virtual celebration of Martin Luther King. Jr. Day. Even though we are unable to gather in the usual way to celebrate this hero of civil rights, the community can enjoy a full video program on Monday.

The video includes an invocation by Past Mildred Roscoe, a proclamation by Mayor Teri Johnston and introductions by Commissioner Sam Kaufman and Mona Clark. Wilhelmina Lopez-Martin will be singing one of her spectacular solos, and the Key West Junkanoos will perform. Roosevelt Sands will recite the I Have a Dream speech, and an array of others will recite various poems. Giselle Albury will perform a piano recital.

Reverend Rochelle Pearson is the keynote speaker. Commissioner Clayton Lopez will make the closing remarks and Pasto Denise McCloud will do the benediction.

This is a moving and inspiring program that will be available on the City Facebook and Twitter pages beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday. For those of you without social media, it will be showing On City TV on Comcast Channel 77 and AT&T Channel 99. Airings will be hourly on Monday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.
