Key West, Fl  – Zonta Club of Key West is excited to host the 28th Annual ABC (Awareness Breast Cancer) 10K and 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, October 31, 2020. This event will be held virtually to raise money to cover mammograms, pap tests, and other diagnostic and preventive screenings for women in the Lower Keys who otherwise cannot afford them.

“The Florida Keys is a high-risk county for breast cancer given our geography and large number of residents who do not have health insurance.  During these unprecedented times, we host a virtual race for the first time to continue helping meet the health needs of Lower Keys women facing financial hardship,” says Bonnie Helms, President of the Zonta Club of Key West.

This year’s event starts at 7am on Saturday, October 31, 2020. Participants will have until Monday, November 2 to finish and log in their virtual race. The first 100 participants to sign-up will receive a participation medal which can be picked up in Key West. Those who live outside of Key West can receive their medal in the mail with a small shipping charge.

Online early registration is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. Note, there is a small credit card service fee with each registration.

Zonta has helped alleviate some of the barriers to health care in the Keys.  With the money raised at ABC, over 3,500 mammograms were provided to local women.  The club has never turned any woman requesting these services away and has made it easier for uninsured and underinsured women to receive these life-saving screenings.
