VETERANS AFFAIRS ATTENDS DRIVER’S LICENSE OFFICE GRAND OPENING, REMINDS VETERANS TO GET DESIGNATION

Monroe County Mayor Pro Tem Danny Kolhage, Monroe County Veterans Affairs Director Cathy Crane, and City of Key West officials joined Monroe County Tax Collector Danise Henriquez at the grand opening of the new driver’s license office today on North Roosevelt Boulevard at the Searstown Shopping Center in Key West.

Monroe County Veterans Affairs actively works with the tax collector and driver’s license offices throughout the Keys to provide supporting documentation allowing honorably discharged veterans the option to have the veteran designation placed on their driver’s license or ID card.

“The veteran designation honors those who served to protect and defend our country and is a verification method used by many establishments offering veteran benefits, services, or discounts,” said Crane.

Veterans can have the designation placed on their driver license or ID card by providing a copy of their DD214 reflecting an honorable discharge from active duty or their United States Department of Veterans Affairs ID card.

  • There is no fee to add the designation to a driver’s license or ID card.
  • Homeless veterans and veteran dependents are also eligible for a free Florida ID card.
  • 100 percent permanently and totally disabled veterans are also eligible for a “Disabled Veteran” license plate at no charge.

 

Military service members who cannot renew their Class E – Operator license online, can request an extension until 90 days post discharge from military service, or until they return to Florida to reside, or until they can obtain a driver’s license or ID card from another state.
