Unlicensed contractors cited in sting operation

Four unlicensed contractors offering construction/home repair work were given mandatory notices to appear in court Tuesday following a sting operation involving Sheriff’s Office Detectives, the State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

John Otto Doyle, 52, of Key West; Gino Chowsky, 50, of Lilburn, Georgia; Delvys Cabrera-Ortiz, 34, of Miami; and Karen Tereja, 45, of Davie, Florida were all cited in the operation. They will also face fines from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The operation targeted unlicensed contractors who are not registered or certified with the state of Florida and/or Monroe County who were advertising their services in Monroe County.

When looking for a contractor for work, it is advised to obtain a written contract, obtain a receipt for payments and determine if the contractor is licensed and insured. You can visit the Department of Business and Professional Regulation website at www.myfloridalicense.com to verify licenses.
