United Way of the Florida Keys to Implement $13,000 Volunteer Generation Fund Grant

United Way of the Florida Keys is proud to be one of 22 organizations across Florida to receive Volunteer Florida’s $13,000 “Volunteer Generation Fund” grant.

UWFK will use the funding to engage over 300 skills based volunteers in STEM educational programming, specifically focusing on personal finance and tax preparation, and disaster preparedness services.

UWFK’s current volunteer programs focus on leadership, direct engagement, nonprofit awareness, and partnership with local civic community groups such as various Rotaries, Elk, and others. The VGF will allow UWFK to deepen their impact in a targeted way to broadly meet the needs of our entire community in times of disaster while also specifically assisting low to moderate income families with a variety of economic stability programs.

With this opportunity, UWFK will develop a strategic plan for engaging volunteer forces, and will recruit and train the individuals best equipped to meet the needs of Keys residents. UWFK will increase their volunteer engagement to 300 within the first year, and will conduct outreach to both traditional civic partners and others not engaged with in the past, including senior groups, veterans, the underemployed, hospitals, EMS, and trade organizations.

Joining with nonprofits across the state including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami-Dade, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, Chapman Partnership in Miami, Junior Achievement in North and South Florida, and several other local United Ways across the state, UWFK is incredibly thankful for this opportunity to increase their Keys-wide volunteer engagement while increasing services offered to all members of the community.

Donations to support the work of UWFK and our local nonprofit partner agencies are accepted year-round. If you would like to make a donation, you can access our online giving portal by clicking the “Donate” button at http://www.keysunitedway.org. Thank you for helping us become the leader in community caring!
