UF/IFAS Extension Monroe County Offers Special Guest Speaker via Zoom: The Spread and Impact of Invasive Subterranean Termites in South Florida

MONROE COUNTY, FL –UF/IFAS Extension Monroe County will host special guest speaker Thomas Chouvenc (UF Associate Professor, Urban Entomology) speaking on the topic of the spread and impact of Invasive Subterranean Termites in South Florida.

Termites impose an important economic cost to homeowners in Florida. South Florida is particularly at risk to termites as three major invasive termite species cause damage to structures and to the urban tree canopy.

In this seminar, the primary key pest species will be reviewed on their biology and their impact to local communities. Resources to identify and minimize the impact of termites in the area are available through the program at the University of Florida termite research laboratory. The pest control industry has an important role in managing termite pest problems, and this educational events aims at brining the newest update on invasive termite species and control solutions.
