Two Retirees Recognized for Years of Service

City Manager Greg Veliz, during Tuesday’s virtual meeting, commended two long-time City employees who are retiring at the end of this month. Marilyn Wilbarger is stepping down after 15 years, and Shirley Sealey is retiring after 30 years of service.

“I don’t think we’re giving them what they truly deserve,” said Veliz, noting that such important milestones are usually accompanied by plaques and fanfare within the Commission Chambers. Because of the current state of emergency, Sealey and Wilbarger were unable to enjoy this tradition.

Revenue Collection Supervisor Shirley Sealey is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service to the City. Originally from South Carolina, she came to Key West at the age of six. She started with the City as a microfilm tech in 1990 and transferred into the finance department in 1995.

“In looking through her file,” said Veliz, “I saw so many commendations. She has, over the years, received great comments from other city managers on her outstanding performance evaluations. I want to take my opportunity to thank Shirley for 30 years of service.”

Also retiring, after serving the City for 15 years, is Senior Property Manager Marilyn Wilbarger. Originally from Michigan, she started with the City in 2005. She began as the property and project manager in port operations. In 2010 she was promoted to her current position. Her career in commercial property management has served the City well, as she has managed all of the properties owned by the City of Key West.
