Two men cited in separate wildlife cases

Middle Keys Deputy Luis Guiardinu gave mandatory notice to appear citations to two men in separate cases involving lobster and snapper violations while conducting resource checks along Toms Harbor Cut.

  • Alberto Luis Gonzalez, 41, of Miami, Florida, was cited for possessing two undersized and one over-the-limit mangrove snapper.
  • Javier Alivera Alvarez, 33, of Lehigh Acres, Florida, was cited for three out-of-season lobster, two of which were undersized. He also did not have a license to harvest lobster.

Man arrested for drugs

A 51-year-old Port St. Lucie, Florida man was arrested Thursday for drug possession following a traffic stop.

James Emory Neitzel was charged with DUI, possession of 3.3 grams of cocaine, possession of 2.8 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped a Toyota pickup truck on U.S. 1 in Marathon at approximately 3:25 a.m. for suspected illegal window tint. The driver, Neitzel, appeared to be intoxicated.

The drugs were found in the subsequent search.
