Two men arrested on a litany of drug-related offenses
Two Big Pine Key men were arrested early Thursday morning following a drug-related search warrant at 29027 Magnolia Lane by members of the Sheriff’s Office, Key West Police and federal law enforcement agents.
James Raymond Wells, 33, was charged with trafficking in heroin, trafficking in cocaine, cocaine possession, three counts of possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Steven Wayne McClelland, 39, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, the Key West Police Department Special Operations Unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection executed a search warrant at approximately 5:45 a.m. at the aforementioned address.
Five adults and one juvenile were at the residence — McClelland and Wells among them. The other three adults were not arrested. The juvenile was a 6-year-old male. The juvenile was turned over to the custody of a family member thereafter.
A search of the residence was conducted.
The following was found in Wells’ possession:
- 39.3 grams of cocaine
- 15.5 grams of heroin
- 7 pill of Valium without a prescription
- 2 pills of MDMA (Ecstasy)
- 91.6 grams of marijuana
- 9.7 grams of psychedelic mushrooms
- 2 Buprenorphine patches (Buprenorphine is an opioid)
- Multiple plastic baggies containing cocaine residue
The following was found in McClelland’s possession:
- 2 grams of heroin
- 1.3 grams of cocaine
- 13.6 grams of marijuana
- 1 round of .357 handgun ammunition
- 1 electronic scale containing cocaine residue
Both McClelland and Wells were taken to jail.
