Two arrested on Fentanyl charges

Two Marathon men were arrested Friday following a traffic stop that yielded four ounces of Fentanyl.

Zachary Scott Simpson, 26, and Miguel Gary Gonsalves, 41, were both charged with trafficking Fentanyl.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped a southbound Ford pickup truck on U.S. 1 in the city of Layton at approximately 12 a.m. for following two closely and crossing the double yellow line.

K9 Coral alerted to the odor of drugs and 4.1 ounces of Fentanyl were found on Simpson. Gonsalves stated Simpson pays him in drugs to drive to Homestead where Simpson purchases the narcotics.

Both men were taken to jail.

Woman arrested for DUI following two hit-and-run crashes

A 62-year-old Summerland Key woman was arrested Thursday after hitting two cars on U.S. 1 and leaving the scene after both crashes.

Debra Sue Bond was charged with DUI, hit-and-run, careless driving, failure to report a crash, driving with a revoked license and multiple other infractions.

The case began at approximately 4 p.m. when a woman reported a Lexus SUV tried to pass her vehicle on the right and left before rear-ending the victim’s vehicle near Mile Marker 21.5.

A short time later, another rear-end, hit-and-run was reported near Mile Marker 17. That victim also described a Lexus SUV as the suspect vehicle.

The Lexus was stopped near Mile Marker 10. Bond was identified as the driver.

It was learned Bond’s driver’s license was permanently revoked after four previous DUIs, including a DUI that caused injury and property damage.

Bond was taken to jail.
