Two arrested in gun and drug case

A 23-year-old Marathon man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested Thursday night after Deputies conducting a traffic stop found multiple handguns and a large amount of marijuana in their vehicle.

Rickie Santiago Pacheco, 23, was charged with  carrying a concealed firearm without a license, possessing a firearm while committing a felony, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and interfering with the custody of a minor.

The 17-year-old was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.

Deputy Megan Faison stopped a white Mercedes on the 7100 block of the Overseas Highway at 1 a.m. that didn’t have its lights turned on. She was joined by a litany of Deputies thereafter. There were four occupants in the car. Pacheco was the driver. An overwhelming odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. The 17-year-old front seat passenger who was arrested and a 15-year-old boy also in the car were both listed as runaways out of Miami-Dade County. It was not immediately clear how long they had been in Monroe County. The remaining person in the car was a 22-year-old female from Marathon. Neither she nor the 15-year-old female were charged.

The following was found in the car:

  • A loaded Taurus .40-caliber handgun with two loaded magazines
  • A loaded Smith & Wesson SD VE .40-caliber handgun
  • 57 .22 Magnum bullets, 13 .38-caliber bullets, five shotgun shells, four .40-caliber bullets  and one 9 mm bullet
  • 75 assorted marijuana vape cartridges and marijuana vape products
  • Various marijuana containers, grinders and rolling papers and a small amount of leaf marijuana

Pacheco was taken to jail.

The 17-year-old was turned over to the care of juvenile authorities.

Deputies drove the 15-year-old female to the checkpoint on U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 112.5 where they met her parents. The 15-year-old juvenile was turned over to the custody of her parents at that time.
