Traffic advisory for Key West 2019 Southernmost Air Spectacular

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists that the Naval Air Station Key West 2019 Southernmost Air Spectacular show is occurring this weekend, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 30 and March 31, at Boca Chica Field on Boca Chica Key.

The free and public air show will include the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, as other aerial demonstrations by military and civilian performers, and static military and vintage aircraft.

The Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Navy are expecting tens of thousands of visitors to Boca Chica Field this weekend to enjoy one of the largest family events in the Keys. Approximately 50,000 people attended the two-day show in 2016.

Motorists in the Lower Keys should expect slowdowns, delays and backups in the four-lane area of U.S. 1 on Boca Chica Key during the show and plan accordingly. There is likely to be traffic congestion both days, particularly between the hours of 8 – 10 a.m. and 3 – 5 p.m. during entry and exit times.

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER: There will be no stopping or parking allowed on the shoulder, curb or directly on U.S. 1 during this event! Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputies and Florida Highway Patrol Troopers will be continuously patrolling to ensure this behavior does not occur, particularly the areas between Stock Island and Big Coppitt Key. If you want to enjoy the show, please attend the event. The event is free and open to the public both days.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Coast Guard will be patrolling the waters around Boca Chica Key and the immediate area in general to ensure mariners stay clear of the Navy’s safety zones.
