Thursday Womenfest  Women & Works” event features poetry readings and a pop-up art exhibit

Key West poet Connie Gilbert, a spirited woman who passed away in 2016, will be remembered at the “Women & Words” event on Thursday, September 8 from 5:30pm – 7:300pm at the Little Room Jazz Club on 821 Duval Street, featuring readings, and open mic, and a pop-up exhibit by island artists and writers. The event is free and open to all; donations to The Connie Gilbert Scholarship Fund, which benefits Florida Keys Women, are welcome.

The Key West Business Guild’s WomenFest celebrates local poets and artists on Thursday, September 8 from 5:30pm – 7:300pm at the Little Room Jazz Club on 821 Duval Street with “Women & Works,” featuring readings and a pop-up exhibit by island artists and writers.

Poet Jah Love emcees the evening, with Key West Mayor Teri Johnston opening the event of round-robin readings by Key West Poetry Guild members Rosalind Brackenbury, Flower Conroy, Arida Wright, Katherine Doughty, Fran Decker, Sheri Lohr, Sarah Goodwin, Cricket Desmarais, and Kai Seava Lamontagne, along with open mic offerings by those seeking to share their work, women and men alike.

The pop-up exhibit features art available for purchase by Alicia Renner, Barbara Sage, Christy Fifer, Cricket Desmarais, Fran Decker, Katherine Doughty, Liz Acar, Lucy Hawk, Lynne Bentley-Kemp, Margo Ellis, Martha Hubbard, Sandy Sun, Roberta DePiero, Susan D’Antonio, Karen Luknis, Karen Moore.
