Three men pulled from water in Marathon

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating after three men — two of which had to be hospitalized — were pulled from Boot Key Harbor near 20th Street Wednesday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to the end of 20th Street at approximately 5:28 a.m. regarding a water emergency to find three subjects in the water at the docks: John Ralph Zens, 52, Andrew Curtis Gaynor, 55, and Michael Lance Prince, 49, all of Marathon. All were intoxicated and bleeding from various injuries.

Zens declined medical transport. Gaynor and Prince were taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon for treatment to cuts and other injuries. Gaynor was subsequently taken by ground transport to a Miami hospital for further treatment.

All the injuries were described as non-life threatening. All the injuries suggested the men had been in a physical altercation.

All three men stated they had been drinking together the previous night, but all gave differing stories as to what transpired.

There were no arrests as of Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives are investigating the incident.
