Third suspect in armed robbery arrested

An 18 year old Big Coppitt Key resident was arrested Wednesday on an outstanding warrant for armed robbery after a foot chase with deputies who were there to arrest him.

Deputies Jenna Moeller and Russell Hull received information just before 7 p.m. that Isaiah Rodriguez was at his home at 63 Barcelona Drive, Big Coppitt Key. They knocked on the door to the residence and then saw Rodriguez running away from them, near the intersection of Puerta Drive and Barcelona Drive. They yelled for him to stop and then ran after him. They finally apprehended him hiding on a property on Riviera Drive. He refused to comply with their orders during his apprehension but they were finally able to handcuff him and take him into custody.

Rodriguez is accused of an armed robbery that took place on Stock Island on October 22nd. He and two other teens from the Lower Keys robbed at gunpoint a group of teens who are from Marathon. The two other suspects were arrested November 15th in connection with the crime.

Rodriguez was charged with an outstanding warrant for robbery with a firearm. Bond on the warrant is set at $250,000. Because he fled from deputies he also faces charges of resisting arrest. A small amount of marijuana was found in his pocket so he was further charged with possession of marijuana.

Rodriguez was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center.
