The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation announces partnership with The Society of Presidential Descendants

The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation is pleased to announce that The Foundation has joined in partnership with The Society of Presidential Descendants to produce the 2022 “Presidential Families Weekend and Forum,” set to take place in Key West, Florida, over Presidents’ Day Weekend in February.

The mission of The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation is to preserve Florida’s only presidential museum—the Key West Little White House—and to provide programming that supports civic engagement, education, and the historic and cultural influences of the Truman era.

The recently formed Society of Presidential Descendants, which was featured in an extensive October, 2021, Washington Post article, is a membership organization for individuals with direct lineage to one or more of the forty-six United States Presidents. It provides opportunities for shared comradery amongst its members, promotes educational opportunities, and periodically awards prizes in recognition of books published about the presidency. Its Board of Trustees is comprised of a 20-member Who’s Who of presidential kin, helmed by Tweed Roosevelt (President) great-grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th U.S. President; Massee McKinley (Vice President and Chief of Staff) great-great grandson of 22nd and 24th U.S. President Grover Cleveland, and great-great nephew of 25th U.S. President William McKinley; Lynda Johnson Robb (Vice President) daughter of 36th U.S. President Lyndon Johnson; and Clifton Truman Daniel, Vice President, grandson of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd U.S. President.

The “Presidential Families Weekend and Forum” will take place in Key West, Florida, and encompass several events over Presidents’ Day Weekend, February 18-21, 2021, including a moderated discussion forum among a distinguished panel of presidential descendants at The Key West Harry S. Truman Little White House, a live theater performance of the highly acclaimed and long-running stage production, “Give ‘Em Hell, Harry!” starring Clifton Truman Daniel, the first direct descendant to portray a presidential ancestor in a stage production of this kind, a Presidents’ Day burgers and dogs picnic, and several ancillary social events where guests can meet and mingle with the presidential descendants.

The “Presidential Families Weekend and Forum” is part of a series of celebratory and academic Harry S. Truman Legacy events set to take place in February and May of 2022, across several historic venues from Key West to Miami, Florida, and back.
