The American Red Cross receives a generous donation from FPL for Hurricane Dorian and Bahamas Relief

MIAMI (October 1, 2019) – The American Red Cross has received a generous gift of nearly $365,000 from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) through its charitable foundation, and matched employee donations that will be designated toward Hurricane Dorian and Bahamas relief efforts.

As a longstanding partner, FPL continues to work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross to help residents in Florida and beyond to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters large and small. From hurricanes to home fires, FPL has been a partner in the Red Cross mission to relieve human suffering by providing time and treasure to support our communities.

“We are so grateful to have a corporate partner like FPL who is committed to supporting our mission,” said Joanne Nowlin, South Florida region CEO. “We rely on our community partners to deliver hope and help when people need it the most, and this tremendously generous gift from FPL and their employees shows the dedication they have toward those we serve.”

As the destructive force of Hurricane Dorian became apparent, FPL made it known that the company stood at the ready to offer support by partnering with the Red Cross to help provide relief to all those impacted by this disaster. In addition, FPL employees took it a step further by giving monetary donations that FPL generously matched.

“At FPL, one of our core values is doing the right thing, and that includes helping our neighbors when they are in need,” said Irene White, FPL senior director of external affairs, Miami-Dade County. “Here in Florida, we are no stranger to hurricanes and we know the devastation they can bring. That’s why we partner with organizations like the American Red Cross whose mission is to help those in need during emergency situations. We’re happy to partner with them once again on this occasion to help Bahamians recover and rebuild.”

FPL presented the Red Cross with a check on Oct. 1 at a ceremony at the Greater Miami & The Keys Chapter office in Miami. Red Cross Board members, staff and volunteers attended. Nowlin and White spoke about the partnership and how these funds will be utilized for relief efforts.
