Texas man dies while diving

A 58 year old man from Amarillo, Texas died after beginning a dive offshore of Key Largo at French Reef Sunday morning.

Oswald Regueira was on his first dive of the day when the incident took place. He was diving from the commercial dive vessel Tropical Legend out of the Rainbow Reef Dive Shop.

According to the boat’s captain, Regueira surfaced from his dive in apparent distress. All other divers were recalled to the vessel and Regueira was pulled on board. As the vessel made its way to shore at the Port Largo Homeowner’s Park in Key Largo, CPR was performed. Paramedics transported Regueira to Mariner’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Major Crimes Detective Bernardo Barrios will be investigating the case.
