Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration Continues with Array of Arts and Cultural Events

March 10, 2022 – (KEY WEST, FL).  Key West Art & Historical Society’s month-long Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration, which remembers the Pulitzer-prize winning literary icon with an array of arts and cultural events, continues through April 1 at multiple Key West venues.  Still to come:

Sunday, March 13 at 8:00pm, the Waterfront Playhouse stages “Two by Tennessee”, two short plays by the noted playwright one night only.  “This Property is Condemned”, features Kelci Grooms and Ervin Tumm for one performance.  The double bill will also include Williams’ lesser-known work “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion” featuring Barbara Mundy, Donna Stabile and Ross Pipkin.  Tickets available through Waterfront Playhouse.

Thursday, March 17 from 11:00am–12:00pm, join Curator Dennis Beaver on a tour of the award-winning Tennessee Williams Museum, 513 Truman Ave., during which he will share highlights from the filming of Williams’ “The Rose Tattoo” in Key West. Tickets are $5 for KWAHS members, $10 for non-members.

Monday, March 21 from 6:30–8:30pm, the Tennessee Williams Monday Night Classic Film Series at the Tropic Cinema, 416 Eaton St., presents “Summer and Smoke,” a film directed by Peter Glenville, and starring Laurence Harvey and Geraldine Page, with Rita Moreno.  The film is based on the Williams play of the same name.  Film tickets available exclusively at Tropic Cinema or www.tropiccinema.com.

Saturday, March 26, from 10:00–11:00am, join Curator Dennis Beaver on a tour of the award-winning Tennessee Williams Museum, 513 Truman Ave., during which he will share highlights of Williams’ life and work during his years in Key West on Williams’ birthday.  Tickets are $5 for KWAHS members, $10 for non-members.

Thursday, March 31, 6:00pm – 7:00pm, Fringe Theater presents “The Poetry & Prose of Tennessee Williams,” a collection of provocative poems and excerpts from short stories and plays read by local poets and writers in the garden at the Tennessee Williams Museum.  Readers include Vicki Boguszewski, Diane May & Keith Dempster, Kitty Clements, MaryCarlin Porter, Sarah Goodwin, Mark Watson, Wilhelmina Lopez Martin, Richard Quint, Judy Leggett, Caroline Taylor and Peggy Guidotti.  Tickets are $10 and will benefit Fringe Theater.

Friday, April 1, 5:00-7:00pm, KWAHS invites the public to a party and fundraiser at the Tennessee Williams Museum celebrating what would have been Williams’ 111th birthday. The evening will include contest award presentations, light snacks, bubbly beverages, and birthday cake.
