Tatah DuJour bids the southern most city a found farewell in “The Red Rooster Revue: A Farewell to Tatah”
The Conch Republics very own “Queen of Burlesque”, performer “Tatah Dujour”, bids a found farewell to the southern most city on March 18, 2023 at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton Street. The “Red Rooster Revue: A Farewell to Tatah”, will be the creator/ producer/ directors last official appearance before heading west to her new home in San Francisco, California. But before she goes, DuJour’s final show show will be a curation of performers and performances that celebrate Key West Burlesque, a company synonymous with Key West entertainment.
Founded in November of 2006, Christa Hunt known as “Tatah DuJour”, and cofounder, Marky Pierson, created Key West Burlesque to showcase the worldwide revival of the classic art form of striptease, now known as neo-burlesque. Since then, theater troupe has become one of the most creative companies of its kind, incorporating the art form of burlesque into original, full-scale theatrical shows. Recognized internationally for imaginative story lines, creative choreography and incredible costuming, Key West Burlesque has gained a huge following from all over the world, with fans coming back to experience the “one of a kind production” that have become a paramount part of Key West’s incredible theater and art scene.
In 2012, Hunt took Key West Burlesque over as sole producer of the company. A driving force in the southern most cities entertainment scene, this dynamic single mother has loved crafting and overseeing the all aspects of the their productions totally solo, a role that she wholly embraces.
“I love getting my hands in on every aspect of a show— from costuming to choreography to marketing and music,” she says. “But what keeps me going is getting to see the end-result. I love seeing the shows come to life!”
Though Hunt started her career at the beginning of the neo burlesque movement in 1998 in New York City, she found her calling as a producer when she moved to Key West. Creating original shows like “The Space Show,” “Gospel of a Good Time,” and “Hero,” put Hunt on the map as a producer. But cheeky parodies, including “Sugar Rum Cherry: a Burlesque Nutcracker” “Burlesquers Stripfinity War,” and “Harriette Potter and the Enchanted Tassel” became her trademark over the past few years.
“Parodies have been a big part of our season line up since creating ‘The Sexy Side of Star Wars’ in 2015” adds Hunt. “It’s been a fun, creative outlet that audiences and performers have enjoyed being a part of!”
More than creating the shows, Hunt has loved getting the work with so many people over the years. From internationally renowned burlesquers like Dirty Martini and Michelle L’Mour, to local celebrities like Cheeky Derrière and Landon Bradberry, Key West Burlesque has provided a stage for hundreds of new and seasoned performers.
“If you want to perform, we have a stage for you. That’s been our motto from the beginning” said Hunt. “One of our all time favorite troupe members was a man we met at Kelly’s Kinky Carnival, Marquee Vonfister. Before Key West Burlesque, he had never performed before!”
You can catch long time fan favorite, Vonfister, as well as a star studded lineup of some of your favorite burlesque performers including; Moana Amour, Aurora Natrix, Frankie Markstone, Lila Starlett, Kevin Dixon, and the Key West Burlesque Dancers at the “Red Rooster Revue: A Farewell to Tatah” on March 18th at the Key West Theater.
