On Thursday, October 6th, Key West High School’s (KWHS) Drama Club held their first meeting led by President Meghan Barter. This marks the start of the club’s second year. Many people remember the club’s success last year and are asking, what comes next?

The Drama Club has many exciting plans for this year. They will once again be putting on a musical in the spring. Recent events included a variety show at the Eaton Street Theatre on November 10.

Many people may remember the club’s production of High School Musical last May. After such a successful musical, the club is focusing on which show to do next. “Last meeting the club voted for a possible show,” Vice President Felicity Delostrinos says. “There were a lot of great options, but we are not sure which we will be putting on.”  Everyone is very excited to participate in the musical, which was the main goal of the club their first year.

Delostrinos explains why the KWHS students decided to form Drama Club last year, “We started Drama Club because we didn’t have one, and there are some kids who really enjoy it, so Meghan really took the initiative and started it.”

Students who do not necessarily enjoy performing might be wondering where they would fit in, but the Drama Club is happy to welcome people interested in other aspects of the show, such as working backstage. “Our stage manager Mackenzie is willing to train some ‘little minions,’” Barter says.

Students who are looking for a club to fill their interests may be surprised at how Drama Club could fill those needs. “There are so many things we need that people can do,” says Barter. “If you’re interested in fashion but don’t have a fashion club, you can do costumes. If you don’t like to be on stage, we need tons of help backstage.”

The Drama Club has over 30 members and is growing fast, but they’re always willing to welcome more. Stay tuned for more information about their spring musical and other shows that will be sure to entertain this year.
