“Surprisingly Readable Guide” for Artists Makes Legal Issues…Almost Enjoyable!

Wisconsin attorney Elizabeth T Russell is the author of Arts Law Conversations: A Surprisingly Readable Guide for Arts Entrepreneurs (Ruly Press 2014). She will visit [YOUR STORE] on [DATE] to talk about the book, sign copies, and maybe tell a few jokes.

About the book. These days we all create, and we all consume the creative work of others. Arts Law Conversations is intended for artists (musicians, filmmakers, writers, performers, visual artists); for industry professionals (agents, managers, lawyers, galleries, venues); for teachers and students; for the business community. In 52 short, understandable “Conversations” featuring characters in real-life situations, Russell helps readers spot and understand the legal issues that too often cause creators and consumers alike to roll their eyes and use bad words.

As the author observes, “You’ll get it. You might even laugh.”

As songwriter Terre Roche comments, “At the end of each Conversation you get to try your own hand at lawyering. And that’s where Elizabeth is like a great dance partner. You didn’t think you could do it, but you’re dancing!”

Arts Law Conversations uses a humorous, storytelling format; is organized sequentially for classroom use; is fully indexed; and includes an extensive glossary. Pianist Jade Simmons, recognized nationally as classical music’s “Number One Maverick,” concludes, “This is crucial information, uncommonly communicated.”

Arts Law Conversations won a gold medal in the 2014 Independent Publisher Book Awards; took bronze in the 17th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards; and was recognized as a finalist 2014 USA Best Book Awards.

Russell developed and taught university classes around the book, for arts students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the State University of New York College at Fredonia. When not teaching, writing, or lawyering she practices photography and stand-up comedy.
