Support Keys History & Discovery Center Amid Closure During Global #GivingTuesdayNow Campaign

ISLAMORADA, FL – Keys History & Discovery Center is participating in the global day of giving, #GivingTuesdayNow on Tuesday, May 5. The Discovery Center, located on the property of the Islander Resort, remains closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet continues to provide access to the museum virtually through a variety of digital media platforms.

“Although our doors remain closed, we have stayed true to our mission by providing content that accurately reflects our Florida Keys in a multifaceted and interactive environment,” said Jill Miranda Baker, executive director for the Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation, the not-for-profit which operates the Discovery Center. “My team quickly pivoted into the virtual world to offer our members and supporters, as well as the greater online community, interaction with permanent exhibits and aquariums, and live virtual lectures.”

New programs launched in May include Field Trip Fridays live on Facebook at 10 a.m.; Cocktails with the Curator on Wednesday, May 6 and 20, 5 p.m.; and Community Views, on Wednesday, May 27, 5 p.m.

Full listing of virtual programming can be found at www.keysdiscovery.com/virtualprograms. All recorded content is available for viewing on our YouTube Channel at Florida Keys History & Discovery Center.

“As our normal revenue streams of daily admissions and programs have been suspended since March 18, the reliance on personal donations is greater than ever,” Miranda Baker said. “We are asking for contributions, no matter the amount, to our annual fund to support the continuation of lectures and virtual programming which is helping us share our mission both in our community and across the virtual world.”

Donations can be made through the website at www.keysdiscovery.com/support or can be mailed to P.O. Box 1124, Islamorada, FL 33036. For more information, call 305-922-2237.
