Superintendent Mark Porter Delivers Statement of Support for Teacher Appreciation Week

KEY WEST — It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to thank teachers throughout the Monroe County School District for their talents, determination and commitment to our students.  It is this dedication to students that we celebrate during Teachers’ Appreciation Week.

Teachers are the essential element in the development of confident, critical thinking students. Here in the Monroe County School District, teacher contributions reach well beyond the classroom and their efforts extend well beyond the reasonable expectations of their jobs. Their dedication to student success provides a foundation for our students to pursue a wide variety of post high school alternatives, all with great success.  From college readiness to career preparation, the teachers of the Monroe County Schools are focused on the singular outcome of success for all students.

Thank you to our teachers for working tirelessly to ensure that all students learn in a safe and inclusive environment. It is their continued support and dedication that makes it possible for students to make the right choices with regard to behavior and inclusivity.  The uniqueness of the Keys presents some challenges to learning that our teachers have embraced as they seek to meet the needs of all students within our diverse island populations.

Within the past two years, we have seen an increase in retention and graduation rates, such outcomes are perhaps the greatest measures of the impact our teachers are having as we continue “Charting the Course to Excellence” in the Monroe County Schools.  Ultimately though, it is the unique and personal relationship that exists between teacher and student that promotes student self-esteem and learning that truly makes a difference.  Without the support and guidance of our teachers many of our students would not know what they are truly capable of achieving and would not reach their full potential.

As Superintendent of the Monroe County School District, I am grateful to the all of our teachers, and on behalf of myself, the School Board and most importantly the students and families of the Monroe County Schools, I want to thank our teachers for the continued commitment and leadership they provide for our students. Their efforts are appreciated not just today but every day.  Thank you to all the teachers of the Monroe County Schools!
