Successful Prosecution in Monroe County Credit Card Fraud and Identity Theft Case

The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office is pleased to announce the successful prosecution of Roy Lee Franklin 43 in a case of credit card fraud and identity theft. Franklin was apprehended on November 30, 2023, as a passenger in a stolen vehicle, thanks to the swift action of Monroe County Patrol Deputies. This arrest led to charges of unauthorized use of a credit card and unlawful possession of someone’s personal identification information.

The Major Case Unit of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office took over the subsequent investigation. They meticulously linked Franklin to fraudulent activities by analyzing surveillance footage from several retail locations and investigating evidence found in the stolen vehicle, which included items purchased using the stolen credit card.

Franklin pleaded no contest before Judge Mark Wilson and was adjudicated guilty. His sentencing included 180 days in jail, $768.00 in fines and fees, 48 months of probation, and 50 hours of community service.
