Stuff the Bus for Monroe County Students’ Success

Florida Keys – In Monroe County, 54% of families with children cannot afford life’s basic necessities. Many of these children begin the school year without school supplies such as pencils, backpacks, books, and other items they need to succeed in school.

United Way of the Florida Keys’ Stuff the Bus program provides school supplies for these children, ensuring they have the tools to excel this academic year. Working closely with the Monroe County School District, each school uses the funds raised to purchase exactly the items their students need.

The success of Stuff the Bus is only possible through the continued generosity of individuals, businesses, and civic groups in Monroe County. Every dollar collected for Stuff the Bus goes directly toward purchasing supplies.  Financial donations allow the program to expand beyond backpacks, paper and crayons to include important educational devices like graphing calculators, equipment for children with special needs and other tools necessary for the school year.

Donations may be made before August 31:

  • Online at KeysUnitedWay.org by clicking on the red Donate button
  • By checks mailed to PO Box 2143, Key West, FL, 33045

Other ways to support Monroe County students:

  • Make a donation to “Tools for Back to School” at Publix checkout counters in August
  • Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and organizations
  • Attend a Stuff the Bus event.  Donations will be accepted August 6 at Bottle Cap Lounge in Key West, hosted by the Rotary Club of Sunset Key West; or, bring a $10 admission donation on August 22 to the Holiday Inn in Key Largo, hosted by the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce.
