Student arrested for fake bomb/gun threats

A 16-year-old Islamorada, Florida female was arrested Friday for making a fake bomb and gun threat at Coral Shores High School.

Ava Carol Patterson was charged with making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner.

“School safety will always be a top priority and I have zero tolerance for those who make these types of threats,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

The Sheriff’s Office received a tip from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations that two subjects were going to put a bomb in the school and shoot an individual with a firearm.

The investigation showed Patterson falsely made the threats and named the two subjects given an unrelated dispute among them.

No weapons or suspicious items were found in the school.
