STATEMENT ON AIRBNB’S ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY ON ADDRESSING SAFETY AND “PARTY HOUSE” PROBLEM
The statement below is attributable to Mike Lux, President of American Family Voices and AirbnbWatch:
“Here they go again. Airbnb’s CEO, Brian Chesky, makes more hollow promises that will do nothing to improve the safety for guests staying at Airbnbs nor neighbors living next to them.”
“As the San Francisco Chronicle reported last month, more than 40 people have been shot at Airbnb rentals over the last six months across the country with 20 of the victims being killed. Airbnb only responded after the Halloween incident garnered national attention. Since then, there have been additional shootings and fatalities at Airbnb rentals. Their response today is unacceptable and local leaders across the country have to stand up.”
“If Airbnb refuses to commit to an adequate effort to improve safety, our government leaders at all levels need to step in. Otherwise, how many shootings or fatalities have to occur until government leaders say enough is enough?”
