State Senator Dwight Bullard Hosts a Gun Violence Press Conference Alongside Joe Garcia, Commissioner Daniella Levine-Cava, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Dan Horton, the Families of Gun Violence Victims and Local Faith and Community Leaders
On Friday, September 30th at 12:15 PM, State Senator Dwight Bullard will hold a press conference alongside former Congressman Joe Garcia, Miami Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine-Cava, State Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, State House candidate Dan Horton, Goulds Optimist Club President J.L. Demps Jr., the Goulds Coalition of Ministers and Laypeople, and the family members of young gun violence victims—including Regina Talabert, mother of the late Noricia Talabert.
Attendees will talk about the real human costs of gun violence, and the need for action on common sense gun reform, including a challenge to all local lawmakers to sign a pledge in favor of responsible gun laws, to take action against gun violence.

Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015. He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats. National and local Democrats have invested heavily in Garcia, with the DCCC placing $5 million in television ads that are currently running in the district. Joe Garcia is beating Curbelo in the most recent poll.
State Senator Dwight Bullard is a longtime advocate of gun control in Tallahassee, opposing such laws as “Stand Your Ground,” and fighting for stricter laws for concealed weapons, background checks, and gun shows. He is running for election in State Senate District 40.
Commissioner Daniella Levine-Cava is a progressive champion who serves the people of District 8, which includes Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, Homestead, and unincorporated areas of South Dade including Redland, Falls, Princeton, Naranja, Leisure City and parts of West Kendall.
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s family became victim to gun violence when her father was shot and killed. She has dedicated her life to helping community organizations gain resources and is running to represent State Senate District 39.
Dan Horton is local activist running to represent State House District 120.
J.L. Demps Jr. is the President of the Greater Goulds Optimist Club, an organization that teaches young positive moral and social values that will help them achieve success. Some of the club’s kids have been victims to gun violence.
Regina Talabert is the mother of the late Noricia Talabert, a 17-year old South Dade Senior High School student who was killed during a shooting in Florida City in 2015.
