STANLEY SWITLIK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STAFF AND STUDENTS BREAK GROUND FOR NEW BUILD

MARATHON, Fla. – Stanley Switlik Elementary School students, staff and faculty broke ground to get ready to start a new build. Ajax Building Corporation and Harvard Jolly Architects are working with the District to improve the learning space at the school.

The groundbreaking included invited guests like Marathon Mayor Michelle Coldiron and Vice Mayor John Bartus.

Stanley Switlik Elementary is one of three schools in the district undergoing facility updates thanks to the community support via property taxes. The elementary school joins Plantation Key School and Gerald Adams Elementary School, two schools scheduled for completion at the end of this year.

Switlik School Principal Brett Unke said staff and students are ready for the new facilities. “After many months of planning, the Switlik staff is excited to see this construction project kick into high gear.”

Superintendent Mark Porter addressed the crowd of students, faculty, and staff at the groundbreaking and expressed his gratitude to the community for continued support of the property tax. ” Funding projects of this size in this location is always a challenge, due to the average cost to build per square foot. However, the property tax our community voted for and supports allows us to continue to build safe and state-of-the-art facilities for our students.”

Ajax will build 111,000 square feet of new facilities for Stanley Switlik to include flexible learning spaces, replacement of the new administration building and new play fields, which is set to be complete in August 2020.
