Stabbing on Big Pine Key
Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives are investigating a stabbing incident which took place on Big Pine Key overnight.
Sgt. Evan Calhoun responded to reports of a fight with a possible stabbing just after midnight on Cunningham Lane. When he arrived, he found the 34 year old victim in front of the house with what appeared to be a stab wound to his abdomen. Two more deputies arrived as backup. The 51 year old suspect was located still on scene. He was detained for further investigation.
The suspect is the live-in boyfriend of the victim’s mother, who was also present when the incident occurred. She told deputies the two men got into a fight during which the victim was stabbed with a pocket knife by the suspect.
The victim was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where he is reportedly in stable condition. Major Crimes Detective Bob Dosh is assigned to investigate. No arrests have yet been made pending further interviews with witnesses and the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
