SOUTH FLORIDA RED CROSS SENDS SHELTER STRIKE TEAMS AND ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO ASSIST WITH HURRICANE DELTA AND OTHER ONGOING DISASTERS

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 7, 2020) – As the American Red Cross continues to respond to multiple massive disasters, ranging from major hurricanes and tropical storms in the south to devastating wildfires in much of the west, thousands of Red Cross volunteers are working tirelessly for weeks across the country to provide food, shelter and comfort to thousands of people in need.

The South Florida Red Cross continues to deploy volunteers to lend support to the many massive disasters devastating communities across the country. Currently, 30 Red Cross volunteers and staff are assisting in disaster responses and relief efforts in Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, California and Oregon.

On Thursday, October 8, the South Florida Red Cross will be sending (2) two shelter strike teams, consisting of 14 Red Cross volunteers and staff, to support shelter operations and response efforts before Hurricane Delta makes landfall. Additional disaster workers across the region will also deploy virtually or on the ground to lend their support in logistics, reporting, operations and more.

“Our Red Cross teams always stand ready before, during and after disasters strike to lend support to our neighboring communities and Red Cross colleagues,” says Rebecca Torriani, Spokesperson for the South Florida Red Cross. “We are One Red Cross and we come together to provide hope, comfort and relief when it is needed most.”

Tropical Storms Gamma and Delta are in Caribbean Sea, slated to take aim at the Gulf Coast. Experts say the two storms may strengthen and Delta could grow to a hurricane.
