Sheriff’s Office smartphone app developer working to resolve issues
The Sheriff’s Office is aware of several bugs that have arisen with our popular smartphone app in the last week.
We are currently working with the company that designed our popular smartphone app to resolve these issues in both Android and iOS mobile operating computer systems. We know many of you depend on our app, particularly for traffic crash alerts on U.S. 1. We are working as quickly as we can with our app developer to resolve these issues — particularly the instant issue with the Android operating system as described below.
Android
- Google, the maker of the smartphone and tablet operating system Android, has made changes to the Android operating system, which required to our app developer to follow in suit in order to ensure the apps works correctly. This has created a bug when it comes to alert notifications when you tap on the alert. Note: Any of you who own a phone or tablet that isn’t made by Apple are likely using the Android operating system. We are aware that the alert notifications page in the Android version of the app is showing up blank. This issue is being addressed.
In the meantime, if you don’t have your Android phone or tablet set to update your apps automatically, you need to make sure that you have updated your Sheriff’s Office app on your Android device by May 29, 2019. After this date, the alert notification banners will no longer be functional. Once you have the update installed, we also recommend going into your notification settings to ensure your alert settings are turned on.
Your alert banners should still be coming through. With that in mind, the Sheriff’s Office will try to shorten the alerts so they will fit in the alert banner for our Android users, so Android users won’t be required to tap on the alert to read the full message.
Another suggestion: All our alerts appear on our Facebook and Twitter pages. If you use Android and feel like you’ve missed part of an alert, please visit us at MCSO – Florida Keys on Facebook or at Florida Keys Sheriff on Twitter.
Apple
- For Apple (iPhone & iPad) iOS operating system users: We are aware that you have a red badge 1 icon hovering over the app, which won’t go away. This is being addressed. In the interim: Go to Settings > Click on Notifications > Click on the Sheriff’s Office app > Scroll down to Badges and tap the toggle to indicate they are off. This should remove the red badge icon if it is a nuisance to you.
The above date regarding Android users does not apply to Apple’s iOS operating system, however, it is recommended that you update your Apple iOS app for iPhones and iPads when the update becomes available. That update is being built by our app developer as we speak and they hope to have it done in the coming weeks.
- Important note: To comment to our app developer directly, please open the app, go to Settings in the upper right corner (it looks like a mechanical gear icon), click on Developer Feedback and let them know what your issue is.
