Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Gregg Johnson wins lifesaving award

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay spoke at the Florida Keys EMS Awards Luncheon at Florida Keys Country Club in Marathon Tuesday in which Islamorada Sgt. Gregg Johnson was honored.

Sgt. Johnson received the Phoenix Award for saving the life of a female boater last year who arrived at the Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina at Founders Park unconscious. Sgt. Johnson was at Founders Park and performed CPR until Islamorada Fire Rescue paramedics arrived shortly thereafter. The woman made a full recovery. Also in the picture is Islamorada Fire Rescue Chief Terry Abel who was also honored for his lifesaving educational efforts in the community.

“We’re very proud of Sgt. Johnson,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “The men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are highly trained lifesavers and Sgt. Johnson’s actions in this case reflected that training. The incident is also a great example of our continued partnership with firefighting and EMT crews when it comes to saving lives in this community every day.”
