Sheriff’s Office returns excess funds

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay announced Tuesday the Sheriff’s Office returned $2,705,921 in excess funds that it did not spend in the last fiscal year to several Keys governments.

“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to being good stewards of taxpayer money,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “We will continue to use each and every penny wisely while still providing professional and effective service to our residents and visitors alike.”

Sheriff Ramsay announced that $2,552,005 will be returned to Monroe County, $82,977 will be returned to the Village of Islamorada, $70,939 to the City of Marathon, and $9,906 to the Key West International Airport.

The Sheriff’s Office traditionally returns these excess funds every year, which helps the county government and other public organizations reduce taxes for the next fiscal year.
