Sheriff’s Office clears roads post Eta

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office took to the streets during Tropical Storm Eta Sunday into Monday keeping the roads clear for emergency responders and motorists.

Most of the fallen trees and other Eta-related issues occurred in the Upper Keys, but the Sheriff’s Office was ready.

One of Sheriff Rick Ramsay’s core leadership philosophies is to always work to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

“I’m proud my team saw a problem and jumped on it — clearing the streets in the hardest hit areas of the Upper Keys after Eta passed over Monroe County,” said Sheriff Ramsay. “It’s vital residents have the ability to check on their property and emergency responders can safely traverse the roads. While using chainsaws to clear fallen brush may not be our primary mission here at the Sheriff’s Office, I’m happy to report my staff saw a problem and addressed it immediately without waiting for someone else to step in.”
